Mobile Apps – the Way Ahead

On May 16, 2011, in Application Development, Mobile Apps Development, by admin

As mobile phones have become as important as our wallets and purses in everyday living, development in this area is going on in a very fast pace. Mobile devices have become a tremendous source of entertainment, communication, and information and jobs for millions. Getting started as a mobile application developer is easy if you are much focused and know about what you want to do.

The development of mobile applications has become one of the largest industries of mobile technologies and thousands of applications exist for mobile users. In the Apple App Store alone, there are more than 85,000 applications available to users, according to data released by Apple in September 2009. Making money with mobile applications is a smart idea for developers and entrepreneurs who want to cash in on the mobile technology industry.

Each of the platforms for mobile applications also has an integrated development environment, which provides tools to allow a developer to write, test and deploy applications into the target platform environment.

Currently, there are a number of mobile operating systems to choose from, with the iPhone OS X dominating the market. Other systems include Google Android, Blackberry RIM OS, Windows Mobile, and the Palm OS / Web OS.

The most important issues for mobile application developers to consider are:

  • The pace of change in the mobile market makes strategic planning very difficult.
  • Developing mobile web applications, which load quickly, is challenging, as shown by Google and Yahoo’s own reports. There may be some impact on the system architecture – e.g. to supply low-resolution versions of all images.
  • HTML5 is a very interesting technology that provides ways to optimize the site load time and potentially allow offline operation.
