Optimizing an ecommerce store is more of a challenge and therefore more interesting than optimizing any other kind of a website. Often, you end up selling the very same products that twenty other online stores. Being the business owner, you might find it tempting to ‘borrow’ quality content and design for your ecommerce store from the others.
In case you are interested in watching your business grow, do not take this path. The differentiation just might prove to be the killing edge that your ecommerce store so badly needs. The more attention you pay to it, the better off your webstore and ecommerce performance will be.
Here are a few store optimization ideas to help you achieve such differentiation with your ecommerce business:
- Don’t use run-of-the-mill content. It should be quite different from that available on other ecommerce stores, even if you sell the same products. Ideally, it should be better. Think about it.
- Creating a dedicated page for each product at your ecommerce store allows you to use long-tailed keywords, which also fits in with the objectives of latent semantic indexing. Each one of these pages should be optimized for the search engines and the customers. Differentiation should play a major part in the design and the content for each page. Both should be created with the end user in mind.
- In addition to on-page optimization, you should also look into off-page optimization. Here, building quality links is critical to the success of your webstore. Links are built gradually, over a period. After you have established rapport with owners of other relevant and reputed webstores or sites, you can ask them to allow you to link to their content. The other content should be very relevant to your own, of course.
- Use hyper-linking between related products on the pages of your ecommerce store. But ensure that the links LOOK like links or are placed strategically within running text. Also, ensure that they lead the visitor to something totally relevant to the topic or the point within the topic.
- Add your own and staff photos as well as a phone number to your store. This sounds like too basic an ecommerce idea to include here, but businesses that do use it effective tend to reap the profits. Both have a specific utility value that is too important to ignore.
I will be adding many more ideas here that will help your ecommerce business extract the most out of your online store. Watch this space.
